Belleair Beach Causeway Bridges Replacement, Pinellas County Florida: E.C. Driver & Associates is currently providing Construction Engineering and Inspection services for the construction of a $73 million, 1.67 mile project involving the replacement of a 1,374 foot drawbridge and concrete fixed span approaches, with a 3,350-foot long, high level, fixed span concrete bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. Bridge consists of 48” and 60” drilled shaft foundations, mass concrete footings constructed in cofferdams, mass concrete columns and pier caps, 1,320 feet (18 spans) of post-tensioned incrementally launched mass concrete flat slabs (the first of it’s kind in the United States), 12 spans of Florida Bulb-T’s, and 3 spans of Post-tensioned Modified Florida Bulb-T’s for the three-span continuous center beam above the main channel of the Intracoastal Waterway. Work also includes the replacement of a 324 foot three span AASHTO girder flat slab concrete bridge with a similar structure; reconstruction of the roadway for the bridge and causeway approaches, and miscellaneous incidental construction, including the reconstruction of the Belleair Boat Ramp Park, steel sheet pile sea walls, boat ramp docks, articulated block and rubble rip rap erosion control, and water quality treatment ponds for mitigation of the increased runoff. The Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge project was listed as one of the top ten bridge projects in the November 2009 issue of Roads & Bridges Magazine.
