Hillsborough Avenue Bridges, Tampa, FL: E.C. Driver performed consulting engineering and construction engineering inspection services for this complex project involving construction of a new bascule bridge and rehabilitation of a historic vertical lift bridge. Widening of Hillsborough Avenue from two to four lanes included the construction of a new bascule bridge and the rehabilitation on an existing vertical lift bridge. 

For the new bascule bridge, constructed to provide additional lanes for westbound traffic, ECDA performed a peer review of the plans and specifications and under the owners direction developed a value engineering redesign of the hydraulic drive system. ECDA then assisted URS with the inspection of the construction, providing on site mechanical and electrical inspectors. ECDA also provided inspection of shop testing of the closed-loop hydraulic system and the functional testing of the bridge.

For the lift bridge rehabilitation, E.C. Driver performed a peer review of the plans and specifications and provided structural, mechanical, and electrical inspection support to URS.
