Popps Ferry Bridge Rehabilitation, Harrison County, Mississippi: E.C. Driver conducted a detailed inspection and prepared an evaluation report for the replacement of the mechanical drive system and span locks of this double leaf trunnion bascule over the Intracoastal Waterway in Gulfport Mississippi. An open loop hydraulic drive system with mill type hydraulic cylinders was designed to operate and control the bascule leaves. The hydraulic system featured a unique accumulator buffer system to provide smooth braking during emergency stops or power failures. E.C. Driver also designed control system improvements and new span locks. During the construction phase, ECDA provided complete construction engineering inspection and post design services.
