Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida: E.C. Driver designed a 35 foot long, single leaf pedestrian and vehicular bascule bridge to connect two areas of the theme park.

This was a design/build project in which ECDA provided all engineering for the design of the unique two lane movable bridge.  The structure utilizes an innovative integral trunnion that functions as both the main pivot axis and a structural element.

A hydraulic power unit and a pair of redundant hydraulic cylinders connected to the integral trunnion via torque arms provide power for motion and control.  The balance system for the movable span is an unconventional partially unbalanced design that provides an optimum design for both the structure and the operating machinery.  A composite hardwood and steel grid deck is provided to accommodate the dual vehicle/pedestrian usage.
